For Major Writing Assignments:
 

• Give students plenty of time to research, draft and revise documents before due dates
   
• Send your assignment prompts to us, so that we can familiarize Writing Center staff with:
  -the conventions of your discipline
  -your specific expectations on each writing assignment
   
• Make your grading process transparent to students:
  -Streamline and revise your assignment sheets each semester
  -Use a grading rubric
  -List areas for student improvement at end of grading comments
   
• Make available to students good samples of writing within your discipline:
  -Put model articles of scholarship on reserve at the library or in a required course packet
  -Put exemplary student essays online or show in class
