Whether in "live" tutorials or by e-mail, we can help you understand what's not working your paragraphs and why, but we are NOT a “fix-it shop” or a proofreading or editing service. We do not claim to improve anyone’s grades. In fact, our focus is not even your paper, even though we certainly work through drafts with you. Our goal is to help you become a better writer.

We encourage students to visit us well before assignments are due so that we can see multiple drafts of a document in process. During the college years, this practice of revision can improve the writer's performance on academic assignments.

We have a few computers for students to draft and revise their work, but our main strength lies in the immediate feedback we provide. Writing Consultants work personally with clients at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming a topic to grammar revision, including any steps in between such as research. Typically we look at writing samples on a paragraph-by-paragraph basis to identify problem areas. We then direct clients to resources in print or online that can assist them further on sentence style, formatting, or grammar.
